Who Is Faithful?

The Bible tells us that God is faithful. He keeps His word. (Deuteronomy 7:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:3) If He says He has the victory then He does. Yet, do you ever question this statement? Especially now when the world seems to be spinning out of control in a direction far from what it was a decade ago. Is God still faithful to His people? What are our Biblical examples of this faithfulness?

Recently, I heard a message about Abraham. The man, although he was already old was told he would be the father of many. (Genesis 12:2) Once he heard that news, did he stand strong against any threat? Did he take the possibility of harm with a grain of salt and trend against it? The answer is: NO. Twice, out of fear, he made his wife pretend to be his sister causing her to marry another man. (Genesis 12:15; 20:1-3) He also allowed his wife to convince him to have a child with another woman. (Genesis 16)

Even though Abraham neglected to hang on to what God told him would happen, did God still fulfill his promise to Abraham? Yes, He did. He was faithful.

But we have wickedness that Abraham didn’t experience. What about that?

When I think of God taking down the wicked, I find David is a good example. He found himself in many battles. Even when he complained and cried out to God, he knew God would come through in some way to save him.

Did God save him? Yes, He did. He was faithful. And, as we all know, David ended up being king over the whole nation.

Life is crazy right now. Those who consider themselves conservatives are finding their values threatened by current world views. To many, things looked hopeless … that there is no way to turn this ride around. Perhaps they are asking, “Where is God in all this?” Like with Abraham, it can be easy to forget that God is able to take down giants and insurmountable odds.

David was not the only one to show us that it’s not always easy to stand up and tell everyone that God can do it. We also have Caleb and Joshua of the Old Testament. They told the nation that the Lord would make a way to conquer the huge people in the promised lands. Were they right? Yes. And because they did not waver when the nation put pressure on them, they were the only ones in their generation to cross the Jordan River into the promise land. (Deuteronomy 1:36; 3:28)

I know in my past that God has been faithful to me. In those moments when the pain was so great and I could hardly breathe, He lifted me and put air in my lungs. When I thought I was abandoned, He provided what was needed. Whether it was comfort or financial needs, He was there. He was faithful. He is faithful.

Instead of looking at the insurmountable, unreal, overwhelming sliding away from God-focused viewpoints … or the increasing number of strange weather events like earthquakes and volcano eruptions … I’m going to make an effort to focus on the Lord. I hope you will too. When we read the Bible all the way through Revelation, we see that the Lord wins. He will make a way. Ephesians 3:20-21 tells us He can do things we don’t even think to ask for. Let’s keep reminding ourselves that He is true to His word and He will right the wrongs. (Hebrews 10:23) He is our hope.
